On-Page optimization is related directly to the content and structure of the website. On-page optimization involves modifying the keywords in the URL, Title Tags, Meta Tags, Headings (<H1/>), HTML Links and Body text.
Many search engines now discount the weight given to on-page factors because they give too much scope for abuse by SEO experts. In theory the visible parts of a web page are less prone to manipulation as they have to make sense to readers.
Each web page should have between two and four keywords directly embedded into the page content. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) should contain keywords, separated by hyphens without being too long. This will allow search engines to crawl your website more easily and correctly display your pages. We begin on page optimization by first writing the <meta name="keywords"/> and <meta name="description"/> tags in the code of your web page. These need to display the keywords within the text but not be over crowded, as this can be seen as spamming. This will allow the search engines to find the keywords when someone searches for them. The <TITLE> tag also needs to be keyword optimized as this is now seen as the most important information when your website is crawled by search engines such as: (Google). This should be the first tag in the Head section of the page and should look something like this <TITLE>On Page Optimization</TITLE>.
The content of the page should be properly structured with the use of Heading (H1, H2, H3 and H4) tags containing relevant keywords. Search engines will only index a limited amount of text in HTML tags and using too many keywords will dilute the focus. Google, Yahoo! and Bing will use the text they find on the page as a description so that's why at Elite Web Design we make sure your first header and sentence describe the contents using the relevant keywords.
We then start writing the text content of every page or modifying it with the chosen keywords and images.
Images displayed on the pages can also be optimized by adding alternate-text tags (ALT tags) which are indexed by search engines when the image is part of a hyperlink. However ALT tags are useful for non-graphical browsing and should be employed correctly like this: <IMG ALT="Description of Image" SRC="image.jpg">.
Once we have fully optimized your website pages we will do a full audit of the site to ensure the content is ready to go live. Search engines crawl websites every 6-8 weeks so you need to give it 2-3 months before your site is indexed. By adding a site map to your website, Google and other search engines will be able to crawl your website more easily.
Large websites generally rank better than small websites for a number of reasons. Search engines also like fresh content and will spider this more frequently. A regularly updated news page, even a blog, can provide deep links to the rest of the website.
